#1 The Atlantic Loire Valley: the cradle of French offshore wind energy, from port to wind farm and test site
May 21, 2026 — 08:00 am - 3:00 PM
Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port, France’s leading offshore wind logistics hub
Building on the expertise gained during the deployment of Saint Nazaire wind farm, France’s first offshore windfarm, and more recently through the development of the Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind project -scheduled to be commissioned in spring 2026- Nantes Saint Nazaire Port has established itself as the benchmark logistics platform for the marine renewable energy sector.
Embark on an exceptional visit. Come aboard and experience a unique perspective from the Loire River over the port facilities of Saint Nazaire and Montoir, including the pre assembly area and the zones dedicated to the EOLE project.
Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm
Missing out on the Saint-Nazaire wind farm while visiting the Atlantic Loire Valley? Unthinkable! The first French offshore wind farm, operated by EDF power solutions and commissioned late 2022.
It consists of 80 wind turbines, for a total output of 480 MW. The farm can supply the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of
700,000 people. It’s a unique experience that everyone should enjoy at least once!
SEM-REV offshore testing site
Another particularity in France is the presence of a commercial wind farm located near an offshore test site, SEM-REV, operated by Fondation OPEN-C. Created in 2012, the site has hosted the first offshore wind turbine in France since 2018, developed by BW Ideol. Fondation OPEN-C, as a research and technology infrastructure dedicated to floating wind turbines and marine renewable energies, operates the test site to host prototypes and help accelerate innovation from concept to real-sea deployment. This enables developers to save time, reduce costs, and mitigate risks by leveraging its infrastructure. This visit offers insight into how innovation and research happen in real-world conditions.
